Best Telegram bots for Books & audiobooks

Book bots help you choose what to read next, send public-domain ebooks as files, keep a reading streak or look up a title on Goodreads without leaving the chat. None of the bots in this rating distribute pirated books.

The best Telegram bot for books and audiobooks is StorytelBot (@StorytelBot): the official Storytel bot suggests audiobooks by mood, plays a sample and shows the synopsis before you commit, with full listening on a Storytel subscription. Книжное свидание (@book_match_bot) is Yandex Books' free swipe-style book picker, and Gutenberg (@Gutenberg_Bot) sends any of 50,000 public-domain ebooks straight to the chat, free and legal.

How we chose

We asked every bot for a recommendation in two genres, non-fiction and detective, and checked whether the suggestions were relevant and came with a synopsis. Download bots were tested on three classics in English and Russian, with file format and legality checked. We also recorded whether the bot is official, what the free tier includes and whether it supports Russian-language books.

Discovery, files or habit

The bots here do different jobs. StorytelBot and Книжное свидание are discovery tools from audiobook and ebook services: they help you pick a title and hand you over to the app. Gutenberg sends actual files, but only public-domain classics. ReadStreakBot is about habit: it suggests books and nudges you to keep reading every day. GoodReader and Good Reads Books Bot are lookup tools for ratings and descriptions inside any chat.

Legal sources only

Telegram is full of bots that hand out fresh bestsellers as files; they violate copyright, disappear regularly and often carry malware in the archives. This rating lists bots backed by a publisher, a store or a public-domain library. For a book still under copyright the path is a subscription service such as Storytel or Yandex Books, or a store.

Formats and languages

Public-domain files from Gutenberg come as EPUB, which Telegram opens in any reader app. Audiobook samples play inline as audio messages; full books require the service's own app. Russian-language readers are best served by Книжное свидание and StorytelBot's Russian catalog; Gutenberg's Russian selection is small and mostly pre-revolutionary.
