Calculator and converter bots answer a quick question in the chat: a sum with parentheses, feet to metres, Fahrenheit to Celsius, a trigonometric expression pasted from a textbook. Some work inline, so the result lands in a conversation with a friend without opening the bot.

Each bot received the same ten inputs: arithmetic with nested parentheses, a percentage, a unit conversion with a typo, a temperature, a currency-like question it should refuse, a trigonometric expression and a date difference. We checked correctness, whether the bot understands both "100 ft to m" and "100 feet to metres", response time, inline support and whether it shows advertising. Currency rates are a separate rating and were not scored here.
For everyday sums a bot that takes an expression and returns a number, like Calculator or the inline @mathcalcbot, is all you need. Console Calculator goes further with Python-style expressions and modules for dates, random numbers and JSON, useful for developers and students. Wolfram Alpha Bot is a different class: it computes conversions, solves equations and answers factual questions with real data, at the cost of a /wolfram command and English input.
Unit converters differ in how they take input. UnitConversionBot understands free text like "100 ft to m"; Converter Bot offers a menu of categories in English and Russian, which is slower but works when you do not remember the abbreviation. Both cover length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed and energy; cooking measures and clothing sizes are rarer.
An inline bot such as @mathcalcbot lets you type the expression in any chat and send the result without opening the bot: handy for splitting a bill in a group. Check the result before sending, inline previews sometimes truncate long expressions. For currency conversion at live rates use the currency rates rating; calculators here use fixed factors only.
