Recipe bots answer two questions: what to cook with what you have, and how to cook a dish you already chose. They are faster than a search engine when you are standing in the kitchen with your phone, and all of them are free.

We asked every bot for a dish from the same three ingredients, chicken, rice and bell pepper, and for a recipe of a named dish, borscht, then checked whether the result had quantities, steps and cooking time. We searched for a dish with a typo, tested how the bot handles a dietary restriction and counted advertising messages during a week of use. Bots that only forward to a website without showing the recipe in the chat were ranked lower.
Search by ingredients starts from your fridge: name what you have and get dishes that use it, which is the right tool for a weekday evening. Search by dish starts from a name or a keyword and shines when you know what you want and need a reliable recipe with quantities. MyCookBot offers both kinds of search: one for "what now", the other for "how exactly".
Quantities, ordered steps, time and the number of servings. A bot that returns a paragraph of prose is fine for inspiration and useless at the stove. Check the first recipe you get from a bot for these four things before relying on it for a dinner with guests. The largest databases include user-submitted recipes of uneven quality; the number of ratings is a useful signal.
Most recipe bots are Russian-language; MyCookBot works in English too. Dietary filters, vegetarian, gluten-free, low-calorie, are rare in bots and easier to handle by adding the word to the search. For calorie counting see the nutrition rating; recipe bots do not compute nutrition reliably.
Yes, MyCookBot searches recipes by the ingredients you have as well as by dish name.
We have no verified recipe count for MyCookBot, the one bot listed here; the largest recipe databases we have checked are Russian-language.
MyCookBot lets you pick English or Russian and search by dish or ingredients.
Not reliably; use a bot from the nutrition and calories rating for that.
