We tested each bot with the same 4 conversions: a multi-page PDF to editable Word, a scanned PDF with no selectable text (requiring OCR) to Word, a batch of JPG photos combined into one PDF, and a short video converted to a different format. We checked whether formatting and layout survived the conversion, how long it took, and the maximum file size the free tier accepted.
Test with a document that has real formatting — tables, columns, embedded images — rather than a page of plain text, since that's where PDF-to-Word conversion actually fails: plain text converts cleanly almost everywhere, but a multi-column layout or a table often comes out scrambled. If you regularly convert scanned documents, check specifically whether the bot runs OCR on image-only PDFs, since a bot without it will return an empty or unusable Word file for a scan.
Fonts not embedded in the original file get substituted during conversion, which can shift line breaks and page layout even when the text itself is correct.
