Writing bots fix typos, tighten a paragraph, change the tone of a message or rewrite a text so it reads differently. They sit between a spell checker and a full AI assistant, and most are fast enough to use mid-conversation.

Every bot got the same three tasks: a Russian paragraph with eight deliberate mistakes, an English email to be rewritten in a formal tone, and a 300-word text to shorten by half without losing the key facts. We counted mistakes found and introduced, checked whether the meaning survived the rewrite, timed the reply and recorded the free limit in characters or requests.
A spell-check bot such as ViSpelling only marks mistakes and leaves the text yours; it is the safest tool for a document that must not change meaning. Rewriting bots like FixMeBot replace phrases and sentence order, useful for tone changes and for texts that must not look copied. Generation bots produce a text from a short brief; those belong in the ChatGPT rating, not here.
Read the result against the original at least once: rewriting bots occasionally drop a negation or a number. Proper names, product codes and legal terms should be protected by putting them in quotes or asking the bot to keep them. In languages where word endings change with case or gender, check the endings after a rewrite; in English, watch for American and British spelling being mixed.
Free tiers are measured in characters: FixMeBot gives 10,000 characters, others cap the number of daily requests. Some bots serve one narrow job well, for example ProWritingAid, which flags wordy, repetitive and passive sentences in English. If your task repeats every day, a narrow bot usually beats a general one.
ViSpelling highlights misspelled words in bold in Russian, Ukrainian and English and leaves the rest of the text untouched.
FixMeBot rewrites in several tones, from formal to friendly; Correctarium fixes grammar, spelling and punctuation and leaves your tone as it is.
Usually the wording changes enough, but structure and facts stay; treat the result as a draft and edit it yourself.
Every text passes through the developer's server; none of the bots in this rating promises deletion, so avoid confidential documents.
