PocketAnki takes the proven idea behind Anki — spaced repetition timed to hit words right before they'd otherwise fade from memory — and strips away the part most people actually dislike about Anki: building and maintaining your own decks. Instead, you just send a word to the bot, and AI builds a flashcard for it on the spot, complete with translation and an example sentence, no manual card creation involved.

Beyond the reactive flow of "send a word you just encountered," the bot also proactively picks new daily words matched to your level and learning goal, spacing them out through the day rather than dumping a big list on you at once. A nice touch is the evening wrap-up: a short mini-story woven out of the words you studied that day, which gives you one more contextual pass at the vocabulary before it's time to sleep on it — literally, since sleep consolidation is a real part of how spaced repetition works.

The trade-off for that convenience is control: unlike raw Anki, you're not hand-tuning card content or algorithm parameters, you're trusting the bot's AI to generate reasonable examples and pick reasonable words. For most casual learners that's a fair exchange — the entire appeal here is "the SM-2 method, minus the setup tax."
