Eddy exists because a previous popular word-a-day bot, LennyEnglishBot, stopped working and pointed its remaining users here as a replacement. That lineage matters more than it might seem: it means Eddy inherited an audience that already knew what it wanted — a simple, no-nonsense stream of new English words, without a mini-app, subscription upsell, or onboarding quiz to get through first.

The format is deliberately minimal: about ten new words land in your chat each day, explicitly free, with the bot's own bio stating there's no cost involved. There's no elaborate spaced-repetition scheduling engine or AI-generated example sentences here — this is closer to the original "word of the day" format than to a full SRS app like Anki. That's a reasonable trade-off if what you actually want is a light daily nudge rather than another app to manage, and it means near-zero setup time.

Because it's run as an independent project rather than by a company, don't expect polished support infrastructure beyond a single contact handle listed in the bio, and treat freshness with a bit more caution than you would an official brand bot — small projects like this are exactly the kind that can quietly stop updating. For now, though, it does what its predecessor did, for free, which is precisely what its existing user base was looking for.
