Github Release Bot

Github Release Bot

@github_release_bot
FreeEN

Notifies a chat whenever a public GitHub repository publishes a new release, useful for tracking dependencies or tools you rely on without watching every repo on GitHub itself. Free, English interface.

Key features

  • Alerts on new GitHub release tags for a public repo
  • Includes version and release-notes link
  • Narrow, low-noise focus on releases only

Github Release Bot

Rather than tracking every event in a repository, this bot narrows its focus to just one: new releases. That is a deliberately smaller job than full activity bots like GitHubBot in this same list, but it solves a specific and common need — staying on top of new versions of libraries, tools or dependencies a project relies on, without setting GitHub's own 'Watch → Releases only' option and checking your email.

Subscribe it to a public repository and it posts a message whenever a new release tag is published, typically including the version and a link to the release notes. That makes it useful both for maintainers announcing their own releases to a community channel, and for downstream users tracking upstream projects for breaking changes or security fixes.

Because it only covers public repositories and only the release event, pair it with a broader bot like GitHubBot or GitLab's own integration if a project also needs issue and pull-request notifications.

How to start

FAQ

Does it notify on every commit or just releases?

Only releases, based on the bot's name and stated purpose — for full activity use a broader bot like GitHubBot.
