What Tickergram Bot does
Tickergram (@tickergrambot) is the public instance of an open-source Telegram bot by the developer a0rtega. The README on GitHub lists the full command set: /quote for a price, /chart for a price and volume chart over five days, six months or a year, /news for the latest headlines on a symbol, /watch and /watchlist for a personal list with automatic notifications, /overview for global markets and /feargreed for CNN's Fear & Greed Index. It works in private chats and in group chats, and its market data comes from the yfinance library, which reads Yahoo Finance.
On the public bot only /quote is open to everyone. The author gives full access to people who sponsor the project on GitHub, as both the bot's description and the README say. Anyone comfortable with Python and Redis can run a private copy with every command and a token from @BotFather.
The catch is maintenance. The owner archived the repository on 1 November 2023, after the last change in March 2023, so nobody adapts the bot when its data source changes. It is a quick way to look up a ticker, not a tool to rely on for decisions.
