Linguogram

Linguogram's core bet is that passive recognition — looking at a flashcard and thinking "yeah, I know that one" — is a weaker way to learn than active production. So instead of showing you a word and a translation to glance at, it has you translate full sentences from English (or whichever language you're studying) into your target language, typing out the answer yourself. Each new sentence introduces one new word while quietly reviewing recently learned ones, and a spaced-repetition algorithm decides when a word is due for another pass.

The sentence-based approach has a real upside for a language like English, where a word's meaning often depends heavily on context — "set," "run," or "light" mean very different things depending on the sentence around them, and pure word-list memorization tends to paper over that. Translating in context forces you to actually parse the sentence rather than pattern-match a flashcard.

A voice feature reads sentences aloud in the target language, which is a useful bonus if pronunciation and listening are part of what you're working on, not just written vocabulary. Because Linguogram supports multiple languages rather than being purpose-built for English, it's a reasonable pick if you're learning English alongside another language and want one consistent tool rather than separate apps for each — though someone whose only goal is English specifically may prefer a more English-dedicated bot for content that's tailored more narrowly to that language's quirks.
