How to create a quiz or poll in Telegram
In a group or channel, tap the paperclip, choose Poll, add a question and options, then turn on Set Correct Answer to make it a quiz. For a series of timed questions with a leaderboard, use Telegram's official @QuizBot.
To create a poll in Telegram, open a group, a channel you manage or a chat with a bot, tap the paperclip icon and choose Poll. Type a question and the options, check the settings, and tap Create on Android or Send on iPhone. To turn the poll into a quiz, switch on Set Correct Answer, tap the right option and add an explanation if you like. For a test of many questions with a countdown for each one and a leaderboard, use Telegram's official Quiz Bot (@QuizBot).
Built-in poll or quiz bot: which do you need?
The March 2026 update gave the built-in poll more than ten new settings, so a single question rarely needs a bot anymore. A bot still wins when people should answer many questions in a row. As of September 2026:
| What you want | Built-in poll | Bot |
|---|---|---|
| One question for a group or channel | Yes: up to 12 options, a description, media | Not needed |
| A quiz question with one or several correct answers | Yes: Set Correct Answer plus an explanation | Not needed |
| Voting that closes at a set time, results hidden until then | Yes: Limit Duration and Hide results | Not needed |
| Names of who picked what | Yes: Show Who Voted (not in channels) | CountMeIn (@countmeinbot) for sign-up lists |
| A test of 10–30 questions with seconds on the clock | No | Quiz Bot (@QuizBot) |
| A score and a leaderboard per participant | No, only vote counts | Quiz Bot (@QuizBot) |
| Questions written for you from a topic | No | Quizzy AI (@quizzy_chatbot) |
| Ready-made trivia for a group | No | TriviaBot (@triviabot) |
How do I create a poll in a Telegram group or channel?
First check that the chat allows polls. The Android, iPhone and desktop apps follow the same rules:
| Chat | Poll available? |
|---|---|
| Group | Yes, unless admins turned off Send Polls for members |
| Channel | Yes for admins who can post; every poll there is anonymous |
| Chat with a bot, Saved Messages | Yes |
| One-on-one chat with a person | No |
| Secret chat | No |
On Android or iPhone
- Open the group or channel and tap the paperclip icon next to the message field.
- Tap Poll. The New Poll screen opens.
- Type the question in Ask a question. The field Add Description (optional) below it takes extra context.
- Fill in the options. You can add up to 12, and each option, like the question, can carry media or a location.
- Go through the switches under Settings (explained in the next section). They don't start in the same position on every app, so check each one before sending.
- Tap Create on Android or Send on iPhone.
On Telegram Desktop
- Open the group or channel and click the ⋮ menu at the top right.
- Choose Create poll.
- Fill in the question, options and settings, then click Create.
The apps cap each option at 100 characters and the question at 255 characters on Android and desktop (200 on iPhone).
What do the poll settings do?
The labels below are the same on Android, iPhone and Telegram Desktop as of September 2026:
| Setting | What it does | Where it's missing |
|---|---|---|
| Show Who Voted | Shows voter names next to each option; off means an anonymous poll | Channels |
| Allow Multiple Answers | Voters can pick more than one option | — |
| Allow Adding Options | Participants can suggest new options while the poll is open | Channels, quizzes, anonymous polls |
| Allow Revoting | Voters can change their vote | — |
| Shuffle Options | Each voter sees the options in a random order | — |
| Set Correct Answer | Turns the poll into a quiz | — |
| Limit Duration | Closes the poll after 1, 3, 8, 24 or 72 hours, or at a custom date, and unlocks Hide results | — |
| Restrict to Subscribers | Only subscribers who joined more than 24 hours ago can vote | Groups |
| Limit by Country | Only users from the countries you pick, up to 12, can vote | Groups |
A few things happen after you send the poll. In a group, a poll with visible votes notifies you each time someone answers and shows which option they chose. Voters' names come with the time of each vote. As the creator, you can see the results without voting. Every poll of a group or channel is collected in the Polls tab of its profile. Since May 2026, admins get a vote timeline once a poll passes 100 votes.
How do I make a quiz with correct answers?
A quiz is a regular poll with Set Correct Answer turned on. Telegram tells each voter right away whether the answer was correct.
- Start a poll as described above and write the question and at least two options.
- Turn on Set Correct Answer.
- Tap the option that is right; the app prompts Tap to choose the correct answer. With Allow Multiple Answers also on, you can mark several correct options, a quiz type added in March 2026.
- In the Explanation field, write what people should learn after a wrong answer, up to 200 characters. Telegram shows it after a wrong choice, and it can be reopened later from the lamp icon.
- For an anonymous quiz, leave Show Who Voted off: the message will be labelled Anonymous Quiz. In a channel, every quiz is anonymous anyway.
- Decide whether answers are final. A quiz starts with Allow Revoting off; turn it on for a practice round people can retry.
- Optionally set Limit Duration and Hide results so nobody sees how others answered until the quiz closes, then tap Create or Send.
When do I need a quiz bot?
A built-in quiz is one question in one message. For a test that people take question by question, with a timer and a final score, you need a bot.
Quiz Bot (@QuizBot): a series of questions with a timer
Quiz Bot is Telegram's own bot for multi-question quizzes, with about 1.3 million monthly users on its Telegram page in September 2026. Telegram's step-by-step guide describes the flow:
- Open @QuizBot, press Start, and give the quiz a name and an optional description.
- If a question needs a picture, a chart or a text passage in front of it, send that first.
- Tap Create a question, fill in the question and the answers, tap the correct one and add an explanation. Repeat for every question, then send /done.
- Pick the time allowed per question. Telegram suggests 10 or 15 seconds when no calculation is needed and 3 to 5 minutes for maths.
- Choose whether to shuffle questions and answers. Say no if the order matters, for example with "all of the above" answers.
- Start the quiz in a private chat with the bot, start it in a group, or share it. Pressing and holding Start quiz in a group copies the quiz link.
The bot counts how many answers each person got right and how long they took, keeps a leaderboard for every quiz, and lets you edit questions and settings later. More details are on the Quiz Bot card.
Bots that write or host the quiz for you
- Quizzy AI (@quizzy_chatbot) writes a multiple-choice test from a topic: 5, 10, 20 or 30 questions, a difficulty level and an explanation for each answer. You can edit every question, play alone, run a group lobby with a live scoreboard or schedule the quiz for a channel. New accounts get free starter coins; more generations cost coins bought with Telegram Stars or a card. Check its answer key before a class sees it.
- TriviaBot (@triviabot) needs no preparation: add it to a group and it asks general-knowledge questions in English, or play alone in a private chat. If you haven't added a bot before, see how to add a bot to a Telegram group.
- VoteBot (@vote), Telegram's official poll bot, builds a poll in a private chat and shares it to any chat or channel with a button, with one running tally in every copy.
- CountMeIn (@countmeinbot) turns a poll into a sign-up sheet: people tap an option to put their name under it and tap again to take it off. It allows up to 10 options and has no anonymous mode or deadlines.
What if something doesn't work?
- There is no Poll in the attachment menu. You're in a one-on-one chat or a secret chat, the group's admins turned off Send Polls, or you aren't an admin of the channel.
- Limit Duration, Allow Adding Options or media are missing. Update Telegram: these arrived on March 31, 2026, and in Telegram Desktop 6.7 a day later.
- Show Who Voted isn't there. You are posting in a channel, where polls are always anonymous.
- Allow Adding Options is locked. It doesn't work for quizzes or anonymous polls, so turn on Show Who Voted first.
- The quiz won't send. Mark at least one correct option.
- "Sorry, polls with visible votes can't be forwarded to channels." Create a new anonymous poll right in the channel.
- View Stats doesn't show up. Statistics are for admins and appear after 100 votes.
- Quiz Bot put your text above a question instead of making it one. Anything sent before Create a question becomes a pre-question passage; tap the button first and type into the template.
- Quiz Bot's questions don't appear in a group. Each question is a quiz poll, so check that the group's permissions allow Send Polls: a bot that isn't an admin follows the same rules as members.
Where to go next
For a ready-made game or a study test, compare the bots in the quiz and trivia bots rating and the study quiz bots rating. If your group decides things by vote, the poll bots rating covers polls shared across chats and sign-up lists.
