What OpenStreetMap does
OSMbot is a thin layer over the OpenStreetMap database. You type what you are looking for — a street address, the name of a station, a category like pharmacy — and it answers with the matching object and a point you can open in any map app. The same query works inline, so an address can be dropped into a group chat without leaving it.
OpenStreetMap is the practical reason to use it rather than a commercial service: the data is open, it is often more detailed than the big providers in small towns and rural areas, and nothing you search is tied to an advertising profile. The flip side is the same coin — coverage depends on local contributors, so a village mapped by an enthusiast can be richer than a city district nobody has touched.
The bot is free, asks for no registration and keeps a news channel for changes. It searches and shows; routing, navigation and live traffic are not part of it.
