What Check-Host does
Check-Host.net has been running since 2010 as a free web tool for checking websites, servers and IP addresses: ping and HTTP checks from servers in different countries, DNS lookups, TCP and UDP port checks, IP geolocation and whois. The site links @checkhostbot as its Telegram bot, and the bot brings the two most common checks into the chat.
Send /http with a site address to see whether it answers over HTTP, or /ping with a hostname or IP to test whether the host is reachable. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to configure, which makes it handy for the first minute of an incident, when you want to know whether a site is down for everyone or only for you.
Keep its limits in mind. The bot does not keep a list of sites and does not warn you when something goes down, so it is a diagnostic tool rather than a monitor. For alerts, pair it with one of the monitoring bots on this list.
