Chinese Duck

@ChineseDuckBot is a personal flashcard system for learning Chinese, built and open-sourced by developer Mikhail Berdnikov. You feed it words or short phrases — either one at a time or in bulk by importing a file — and it turns them into flashcards, splitting each one into syllables and color-coding the tones so you can see at a glance whether you're dealing with a first, second, third or fourth tone.

From there you can drill the deck in several modes: pronunciation practice, translation (Chinese to your language and back), and writing, plus a plain viewing mode if you just want to skim. The bot keeps a running score per word so you can see which ones you actually know versus which keep tripping you up, and it ships with the standard HSK 1 through 6 word lists pre-loaded in both English and Russian, so you don't have to build a deck from zero if you're studying toward those levels.

It also works inline — typing @ChineseDuckBot and a word in any Telegram chat looks it up on the spot, without switching to the bot's own conversation.

The project is open source and still labeled beta by its own author, and the GitHub repository has been archived (no new commits since mid-2024), so don't expect new features going forward — what's there is what you get. For anyone specifically studying toward HSK exams or wanting a no-frills, self-managed vocabulary deck for Chinese, though, the existing feature set already covers the basics well.
